THE CANFORD LYRICS FILE

Tom Miller, who wrote under the name Tom Canford, always considered himself first and foremost a writer of song lyrics, an emphasis which the name of this website continues. If you are a songwriter who is looking for lyrics to set to music or if you just like to read song lyrics for fun, CANFORD LYRICS is the place for you. Tom Canford has written lots of lyrics that are crying out for music. Pull up a chair, get out your instruments, and have a good time! In addition to the specific songs under Song Lyrics, additional lyrics are available in the postings for the individual musical plays

But that's not all! Here you can find descriptions of and information about the availability of Tom Canford's three published novels, Boy at Sea, The Curse of Vilma Valentine, and Ghost Guitars. Also included is the full text of A Fever of the Mad, his memoir about working on films such as Elaine May's Mikey and Nickey and Francis Coppola's The Cotton Club! You'll also find a bit of family history and autobiography!

And even more! The full text of Jonathan May's novel Siren Song and information about his published novel Rumors of Wolves are also available on this site. (We shared so much in life that I figured he wouldn't mind sharing this site with me as well.)

WHO IS TOM CANFORD?
Tom Miller was born in Carrier Mills, Illinois, in 1922 and grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico, from the age of seven until he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942. He started writing songs as a teenager and continued until his death in 2007. His musical THE DARWIN THEORY was produced at Los Angeles City College in June 1949 to local acclaim. Over the years he worked primarily in the motion picture industry, first as a staff publicist and later as a unit publicist (for his unit credits see the Internet Movie Database  http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0589450/) but his true love was writing: plays, novels, poems, and of course song lyrics.

Why the CANFORD? As he would ask, do you know just how many Tom Millers there are? When Tom was working on rights and permissions for films, he discovered that Canford was one of the few "safe" names for villains and drunks: it sounds like a regular name, but very few people are named Canford. If safe for reprobates, then why not for a writer!

READ THE SONGS FOR FUN AND SET THEM TO MUSIC IF YOU WISH!

Just remember: be sure to contact Canford Lyrics if you wish to perform or publish for profit. And don't forget: there are a lot more songs than those presented on this site still resting at the bottom of Tom's trunk!
